			The Ji Yau Dong emerged in the late 1960s as a nationalist-liberal coalition advocating for Tsz Kong’s independence from Anglo-French colonial rule. Unlike radical factions, it positioned itself as a moderate, pro-business alternative to socialist and hardline nationalist groups, championing free-market reforms, democratic governance, and cultural preservation. After independence in 1971, it became a key player in Tsz Kong’s early governments, pushing for economic liberalization while maintaining a pragmatic, center-right stance. By the 1980s, as Tsz Kong’s economy boomed, the Ji Yau Dong solidified its reputation as the party of entrepreneurs, professionals, and middle-class voters, balancing free-market policies with moderate social conservatism. It resisted both the left’s welfare-state expansion and the new right’s xenophobia, instead advocating for regulated capitalism, meritocracy, and gradual social reform.

			The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis tested the Ji Yau Dong’s credibility. Initially blamed for light-touch financial regulations, it rebranded under leader Vincent Ko Wing-cheung, who shifted toward "compassionate conservatism"—supporting targeted social safety nets while maintaining fiscal discipline. This pivot allowed it to survive while the Democratic Party collapsed, making it the dominant center-right force by the early 2000s. Throughout the 2000s, the Ji Yau Dong positioned itself as the natural counterweight to the New Democratic Covenant (NDC), arguing that economic freedom, not state intervention, was the best path to prosperity. It formed short-lived coalitions with both the NDC (on democratic reforms) and the Tong Heung Kuk (on tax cuts), proving its flexibility.

			In the populist upheavals of the 2010s-2030s, the Ji Yau Dong became the steady hand of Tsz Kong politics. While the Tsz Kong Nationalist Party (TKNP) lurched right and the Democratic Socialist Greens (DSG) pushed for radical change, the Ji Yau Dong remained the voice of pragmatic conservatism. Its ability to win over moderate voters has kept it competitive, even as younger activists flock to the DSG or TKNP. In 2032, leader Vicky Tseung Ka-man became President in a coalition with the NDC, proving that centrism still has a place in Tsz Kong’s divided politics.
