Lore
In 1967, excecutives at Cardo Radio, owned by NTEP, saw a potential in television, which was becoming popular around the world. They applied for a television broadcasting license from the government, which was quickly approved. It made its first broadcasts on November 19, with a channel in Cantonese and a channel shared between English and French, named Jade and Pearl respectively. Only a small portion of Tsz Kong's population had their own TV set, mostly wealthy families, which meant most went to local restauraunts to watch.
In 1970, owing to audience demand, NTVB Azur, a dedicated French channel, was launched, with Pearl becoming a full English channel. NTVB also started trial color broadcasts of its news programs, later expanding to dramas and documentaries. NTVB fully switched to color in 1972.
