Technicians are members of staff, they help regulate the technical aspects of the community. Formerly created to separate moderation and technical aid to 852R, has now made redundant as the roles were to similar [1]

Since August 2024, all technicians are promoted to being moderators and are technicians as a sub-role. [2][3]

Controversy

Sleepy Incident

Main article: January 2022 Technician Validation and Grooming Allegations

On the 9th of January, a discussion on the validity of technicians was sparked in #discussion-forum on discord.

The discussion would cover

  • Should technicians not exist as the job should already be done by the staff team?
  • Why make a new role for a sleepy who is going to be a moderator anyways in 5 days?
  • Is flutters grooming because they keep rooting for sleepy to be a moderator?

On January 11th both a poll and a discussion topic on #discussion-forum went out by flutters asking the community whether or not technicians should be promoted or voted in. This is because of a disagreement between Card0 and flutters; and they tried to prove a point through the power of agreement.

The very idea of technicians being voted in seemed ludicrous to flutters as technicians should be technicians based on their ability and not by popularity. Furthermore, technicians already existed without being part of staff. Sleepy maintained 3 bots even before she was a technician, so after the role existed, there should absolutely be no reason she shouldn't be hired straight away.

The communities response was that technicians should be promoted in with the polls. A ratio of voted and promoted was brought to a 4:20.

On that same day Tolmo was hired without conversation.

Sleepy would be promoted to Moderator in September.

flutters

flutters added the role technicians to herself as they claim to fit the role of being a technician more than the other staff members. Card0 once "sarcastically" agreed on the 12th of January.

On the 14th after presenting a screenshot of the Wiki as confirmation and the technicians list, Card0 gave orders to flutters that "You’re not a technician/Remove that now." flutters argued that the role she has reflected/corresponded with her role and tolmo took a stance with flutters, only for Card0 to respond with "Admins have technician powers already."

flutters then brought Card0 to the attention to the idea that power and knowledge are two different aspects and that "its like saying im a vice principal and a geo(graphy) teacher at the same time. sure vp (Vice Principals) have more power than geo(graphy) teacher(s), but i am still both. i still manage bots, and i admin this place."

Card0 then agreed to the statement and allowed flutters to be a technician.
